Migrant workers in Turkey have been a concern for government, brands, businesses, NGOs, trade unions and the media. There are estimated to be 3.5million migrant workers in Turkey, of which only 35,000 are registered to work.
That makes them vulnerable and open to exploitation and abuse, and also poses reputational risks for companies – language barriers, fear and trust are challenging problems.
In this regard, ETI has organized a workshop to discuss how current initiatives are tackling this problem, and what more can be done. The Ethical Trading Initiative has a global programme to help improve access to remedy for migrant workers, and we will be discussing the key elements of this programme, enabling different organizations to share good practice, and consulting on a set of global principles on access to remedy.
United Work has participated as a panelist to share field support collective knowledge along with giving insight and feedback on the principles & its applicability.
